Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram is a type of ultrasound where sound waves are used to create and capture images of your heart and surrounding structures. This is a tool used to assess blood-flow and identify any areas that may be weakened or damaged. It is a routine test, non-invasive, and our most common tool to start to put together the puzzle pieces of your cardiac health.
We may also use specialized variations of an electrocardiogram to help enhance our view of your heart. This could include micro-bubbles, and ultrasound enhancing pigment to get remarkable images of your internal cardiac structures.
Please follow these instructions the day of your echocardiogram:
- Go about your day as per normal.
- Eat well and stay hydrated.
- Get plenty of rest the night before.
- Bring a list of your medications with you.
- Arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment.
How long will the appointment last?
It usually takes between 30-45 minutes for the echo to be completed. The duration will depend on what specifically is being investigated in your case.
